With just one day to go before the start of the Super 12 matches of the T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka cricket team consultant and former captain Mahela Jayawardene has resigned. Jayawardene was sent off by the Sri Lankan team due to the stress of living in a bio-bubble. Jayawardene, who has been living in Quarantine and Biobubble since June, said he had seen his daughter for 135 days and could not wait any longer. Jayawardene, who took over as the coach of the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, has been in the bio-bubble there as well. It was after this that the Sri Lankan team reached the bio-bubble.

Jayawardene’s changes in the batting order of the Sri Lankan team in the qualifying round matches were beneficial to the team. It was Jayawardene who decided to drop Avishka Fernando to fourth in the batting order. Sri Lanka, who won the first two matches of the qualifying round, have qualified for the Super 12 tournament.

Jayawardene said the team was prepared for the Super 12 fights and the final match against Scotland in the qualifying round before leaving the team and that the team combination would change according to the venues. Jayawardene said he would continue to provide technical assistance to the team.
