The unexpected black flag protest shocked the minister and the police. The minister, who had come to inaugurate the bridge by cutting the ribbon, stepped back. Deepa was arrested and later removed from the area as there were no women police for the minister’s security. All this time, Deepa protested by waving a black flag and chanting slogans in front of the minister.
Deepa opposed the attempt by the male police officers to take her into custody without the female police. Eventually the Attingal DySP was forcibly taken away in an auto. The minister inaugurated the bridge following removing Deepa from the area. Deepa, who was arrested, was later released on bail.
