Brussels: The Sakharov Prize, an honor for human rights of the European Union Parliament, was awarded to Mahsa Amini, who was killed in Iran, and to the ‘Women, Life, Freedom’ women’s movement. Following the death of Amini, the protests are taking place in Iran under the banner of ‘Women, Life and Freedom’ organization.

President Robert Metzola said the European Parliament stands with those who fight for equality, dignity and freedom. The prize money is half a million euros. The prize will be distributed on December 3. The prize, named following the Soviet dissident and scientist Andrei Sakharov, was established to honor individuals and organizations leading human rights struggles.
