Assembled in China by Canada Steamship Lines on behalf of Windsor Salt, the ship has embarked on a voyage to Halifax, which is expected to take six weeks.

“This state-of-the-art vessel with a deadweight capacity of 26,000 metric tonnes will be the first diesel-electric laker as well as the first vessel equipped with a single point loading system to be operated in Canada”, can we read in a press release.

Thus, with its unique design, it “will provide a safe, efficient and reliable long-term maritime transport solution to the Magdalen Islands region,” argued the company.

The “M/V Nukumi” will load de-icing salt and ensure delivery in the east of the country “to keep the roads safe during the winter season”.
