The Mapuche conflict in Villa Mascardi added another episode of violence last night. The owner of the Los Radales cabin reported a new attack on his property, the third in its history, which was in the custody of the Gendarmerie after be set on fire in august. The owner of the construction, which is located in the vicinity of the property occupied by the Mapuche lof Lafken Winkul Mapu, told the local press that it was an intentional act that affected a stall where there were three uniformed guards and a shed with tools.
“This is very serious, it is no longer an attack on an individual, it is an attack on the national forcesit is a demonstration that they believe that there are no limits in their claim”, said Luis Dates, owner of the affected cabin, to the newspaper Black river. In addition, he added that the new attack was carried out by a “larger group than other times.
According to Dates, the hooded assailants “burned a Gendarmerie post that they had set up to protect the property and the neighbors who live in the area.” The booth with the uniformed officers was located on that property two weeks ago, about 50 meters away from National Route 40. From that moment on, there was a permanent guard of federal agents in that place.
The owner of Los Radales was not on the premises and, as the main house was destroyed a month and a half ago, there were no guests either. In addition, Dates said that neighbors in the area told him that there would be alleged firearms shots. As the Gendarmerie post was attacked, on this occasion, Federal Justice intervenes.
For some years, conflicts like this have become common in the surroundings of Villa Mascardi. There is a tense relationship between the inhabitants of the area from the settlement of the self-styled lof Lafken Winkul Mapu in 2017.
The last fire that Dates suffered on his property, in August, provoked the reaction of the local government which, at the head of Arabela Carreras, required the Casa Rosada, more precisely the national security portfolio that he heads Hannibal Fernandez, to send a custody of the federal forces. Faced with other similar attacks in the past, the Province and the Casa Rosada staged strong crosses as a result of the Nation’s refusal to send troops.
The neighbors, outraged, also demanded more security for the area. Diego Frutos, president of the Villa Mascardi Neighborhood Council y owner of another property that was vandalizedsaid to THE NATION In this regard: “Nación said that it sent many agents and the only thing they did was bring a Gendarmerie post that was in the surroundings of Bariloche near Mascardi. It’s all a lie.”
Last year, after the events perpetrated in the Rionegrina Road Camp and the El Bolsón Tourism Office, by decision of Governor Carreras, the Río Negro State Prosecutor’s Office filed a complaint with the Federal Court of Bariloche to investigate the possible existence of a criminal organization that threatens property.
“Justice is stagnant. The hooded men do not show up to the hearings and he does not go looking for them either. On Friday, September 2 there was a new one, but with the strike decreed by President Alberto Fernández [medida tomada el día anterior tras el intento de magnicidio de Cristina Kirchner] Now it’s passed for November, ”Frutos recounted, indignant.
The neighbor owns a field called La Cristalina which is next to Los Radales. “Everything is mined, destroyed. There is almost nothing left. They took everything out of me”, he complained. The dispute is so fierce that there were even people who were injured in this last time.
In the middle of last July, a married couple who were in their cabin in Los Repollos, a few kilometers from El Bolsón, were brutally attacked. Not only were they stolen, but two men tried to set fire to the owner of the placewho later had to be hospitalized with burns on 20% of his body.
“Mine here is over. Yesterday a chapter was closed for me. When they discharge me, I grab my fanny pack with the documents, the mate, my dogs and I’ll go back to Buenos Aires,” Pablo Conti said, terrified, after the attack that was attributed to the Mapuche Ancestral Resistance (RAM).
