The 57-year-old will follow interim boss Gabi Sprickler-Falschlunger, the party confirmed following the end of the meeting. The official presentation will take place on Tuesday, and the leader will be elected at a party conference in spring 2024.
Leiter should also lead the Vorarlberg comrades as a top candidate in the 2024 state elections. The comrades are hoping for more success from the new party leader, because in 2019 the SPÖ in Vorarlberg was once more at a low with 9.5 percent voter approval. The former deputy mayor of Bludenz, who has only gained experience in election campaigns in local politics, currently has no political function.
