08/11/2023 | (rsn) – Marlen Reusser, who got off her bike prematurely in the World Cup time trial, will start in the World Cup road race in Glasgow on Sunday. This was announced by the Swiss Cycling Association on Friday evening. “In road racing, Marlen doesn’t need a breather. There, women race once morest women, not once morest themselves. That’s a different story,” national coach Edi Telser explained in a press release.
Reusser, who started as the top favourite, finished the time trial following only 16 kilometers and explained followingwards that she was mentally ailing and needed a break following a long season. However, the 31-year-old also added that she would only decide on her participation in the road race following a good night’s sleep.
Apparently Reusser, who did not comment personally, feels ready for the women’s race, which will end the street competitions. And the team management has no reservations regarding their use. “Health comes first for us, it is above sport,” emphasized Telser.
The European time trial champion will form the Swiss team on Sunday together with the experienced Elise Chabbey and Elena Hartmann as well as the U23 riders Noemi Rüegg, Noëlle Rüetschi and Linda Zanetti.
