Marquette University announced the cancellation of all classes on Monday, March 16, 2026, due to severe weather conditions impacting the Milwaukee area. The cancellation applies to all course modalities, including in-person, synchronous, and asynchronous online learning.
Although classes are canceled, the university will remain operational, though with reduced hours and services in several areas. According to a university statement, the Alumni Memorial Union, Facilities Planning and Management, Information Technology Services, the Marquette University Child Care Center, the Marquette University Police Department, and University Dining Services will all experience adjustments. Within University Dining Services, only Cobeen, Commons, and Brew AMU dining halls will remain open.
The Helfaer Recreation facility will also maintain modified hours. Employees who are able to work remotely have been granted permission to do so with supervisor approval. For those whose roles do not lend themselves to remote work, supervisors are expected to collaborate with employees to determine alternative arrangements. Supervisors are tasked with communicating expectations to their teams.
The university has addressed academic considerations stemming from the cancellation. Assignment due dates will be adjusted, and instructors are expected to communicate revised expectations for missed or delayed work to students. Guidance regarding timesheet entry for canceled classes and operational disruptions will be disseminated to supervisors by the payroll department.
Generally, campus events and student-organized activities will be canceled alongside classes. Exceptions may be requested through a detailed event protocol. Further information regarding the university’s severe weather policies is available online.
