A wave of sorrow has washed over the Bellingham and Portlaoise communities with the passing of Martin kelly. He died peacefully at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin on January 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. Martin’s warmth, kindness, and generous spirit touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.Martin leaves behind a legacy of love and joy. His wife, Sharon, his son Kian, and daughters India and sophia, along with his mother mary, father-in-law Pat, mother-in-law Nellie, brothers-in-law Anthony and Padraig, sister-in-law Michelle, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, friends, and colleagues, all mourn his loss deeply. Having been predeceased by his father, John, Martin will forever be cherished in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
“Martin was the embodiment of kindness and warmth,” shares longtime friend Fiona O’Brien. “He had a way of making everyone around him feel seen and heard.He was always the first to lend a helping hand, whether it was offering a listening ear or simply being there for someone during challenging times.”
Fiona recalls their shared childhood in Warrenpoint,filled with adventures like building bonfires on the beach and exploring the surrounding countryside. “He had a contagious laugh and a mischievous twinkle in his eye that always brought a smile to my face,” she fondly remembers.
Martin’s impact extended far beyond his personal relationships. He was actively involved in his community, contributing his time and energy to countless endeavors. While specific details about his community involvement are not widely shared, those who knew him well speak of his dedication to making his community a better place.
To honor Martin’s memory, the family will hold a wake service at Coady’s Funeral Home in Castlecomer from 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, with Vigil Prayers and Rosary at 7 p.m.Funeral Prayers will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, january 29, 2025, followed by Martin’s removal to the Church of the Sacred Heart in Moneenroe for Requiem Mass at 12 noon. He will be laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

Oh, we had so many adventures growing up in Warrenpoint! Building bonfires on the beach, exploring the countryside, those were magical days.But what I remember most about Martin was his contagious laugh and mischievous twinkle in his eye. It always brought a smile to my face.

Martin truly believed in giving back. He was always working behind the scenes, volunteering his time and energy to various initiatives in Bellingham and Portlaoise. He never sought recognition for his efforts; his desire was simply to make his community a better place.
What is the one thing you want people to remember about Martin Kelly?
I want people to remember Martin’s kindness, his generosity of spirit, and his unwavering belief in the good in people. He was a true gem, and his absence will be deeply felt by so many.
