Her passing marks the end of an era for a woman deeply rooted in the community and cherished by those who knew her. The news of her death has prompted an outpouring of memories from friends and family, highlighting a life filled with love, travel, and a fondness for simple pleasures.
Born in Albany, Mary was the daughter of the late Stephen and Marie Weinlein. She shared 51 years of marriage with her late husband, Charles Whitman Jr. Throughout her life, Mary cultivated a strong sense of connection with others, particularly through shared hobbies and a dedication to family. Her ability to discover joy in everyday moments and her warm personality will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Life Well-Lived
Mary found great enjoyment in exchanging puzzles with her friends Kathy, Debbie, and Joanne, a pastime that fostered camaraderie and mental agility. She also embraced opportunities for travel, including a period of residence in Florida, and above all, treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she actively participated in their joys and milestones.
She was predeceased by her sister, Lucille Nicpon, her brother, Stephen Weinlein Jr., her sister-in-law, Marilyn Annello, and her cousin, Dianne DiNicola. These losses, whereas deeply felt, did not diminish her spirit or her capacity for love and connection.

Mary is survived by her three daughters: Susan (Gerald) Rider, Carolyn (Dennis) Brown, and Joan (Bob Doty) Burns. Her legacy extends to her grandchildren – Aric (Robin), Kain (Paula), and David (Jaime) Rider; Brian (Sara), Dana (Justin), and Jeffrey (Megan) Brown; Heather and Michelle (Jim) Burns – and a growing family of great-grandchildren, including Vanessa, Aric Jr., Avery, Ayden, Cody, Abby, Samantha, Charlotte, Evelyn, Wyatt, Lucy, Desi, Robbie, and Anthony. She also leaves behind several cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends Sandra and Mark.
Services to Honor Mary Whitman
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY, on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 am at the same location. Following the service, Mary will be laid to rest at Memory Gardens in Colonie, NY, alongside her beloved husband, Charles.
