Some 40,000 chickens perished in the fire at an industrial farm on Saturday noon in Merksplas (province of Antwerp), local police said. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
The firefighters were alerted shortly following noon of the fire in this breeding. They asked residents to keep doors and windows closed. No one was injured, only one man was admitted to hospital following inhaling smoke.
