The East Tyrolean municipality of Matrei – which has had major financial problems for years – is struggling to avoid insolvency these days. According to auditors, the debt of the market town should amount to around 35 million euros. In order to prevent the worst, the municipality’s negotiations with the 106 creditors are in full swing these days. Most recently, a compensation rate of 80 percent was offered, but not everyone agreed.
