Medium-Sized Barge Sinking and Pollution Response on Meuse River: Updates and Rescue Efforts by NAGE Firefighters and Crisnée Civil Protection

2023-06-22 15:06:00

Firefighters from the NAGE rescue zone, under the orders of Captain Lurkin, intervened along the towpath. On site, a medium-sized barge sank towards the bottom of the Meuse. By late morning, the boat had ended up being completely submerged.

The barge’s hydrocarbons spilled over the watercourse, creating a major pollution slick. Crisnée’s civil protection was dispatched to the scene to set up a floating dam. A bailout operation was still scheduled for Thursday, operations are continuing.

Environmental and river police were also on site.
