She is what you might call an everyday heroine. Jacqueline Honoré is 90 years old. Like many people in Belgium, she is a volunteer, responsible for reception at the Erasme hospital in Anderlecht.
And patients who go to the hospital can’t miss it. Jacqueline welcomes visitors at the entrance, a task she has done voluntarily for 30 years, following a career in a care home. It is in fact a whole team of volunteers who welcome and support patients through access procedures or complicated hospital routes. In Erasme, there are around 150 volunteers, help that the hospital might not do without.
This dedication earned Jacqueline the opportunity to be received at the Royal Palace this week, with around ten other everyday heroes.
