Meeting of Saudi and Iranian Foreign Ministers in China

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdullahyan met for the first time in Beijing to discuss measures related to their diplomatic relations.

In a video shared on social media website Twitter, Prince Faisal and Amir Abdullahiyan are seen greeting each other before sitting together.

The meeting is the first formal contact between the top ambassadors of Saudi Arabia and Iran since 2016.

According to reports, the talks followed three separate phone calls between the two foreign ministers, in which they discussed steps to resume their diplomatic missions and reactivate previous agreements.

Saudi Arabia, Iran and China announced on March 10 that they would restore diplomatic ties within 60 days, a statement said, adding that all joint agreements between the two countries, including agreements on security cooperation, economic, trade, capital Work, technology agreements will be reactivated.

It should be noted that Saudi Arabia severed relations with Iran in 2016 when the Iranian embassy was attacked during tensions between the two countries.
