Meeting the Demand: Addressing the Need for Medical Career Spaces in Baja California’s UABC

2023-11-19 01:19:47

In each call, more than 7 thousand applicants seek a space in careers related to the field of medicine in the four academic units of the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), reported its rector Luis Enrique Palafox Maestre.

He pointed out that currently the university has only 450 spaces in these careers at the state level, which is less than 10% of the total demand in the health area, the most in demand during the call stage.

Palafox Maestre also pointed out that the number of spaces in the medical career depends on the state’s hospital infrastructure, since the hospitals that currently exist do not offer enough spaces to open more places.

“The clinical training cycles, which begin in the fourth semester, but above all the internships and social service positions, are fundamental for the training of new doctors”

Adrián Medina Amarillas, Secretary of Health of Baja California, reported that work is already underway on expanding spaces in hospitals, such as San Felipe, and the construction of a new hospital in Tijuana.

Likewise, he indicated that there is constant communication with the university authorities, so that future doctors can carry out their internships in the health sector.

“The intention is this, it is to generate spaces that are sufficient for young people to continue having and maintaining the high level that the Faculty of Medicine has”
