Men’s Ski World Cup at the Foot of the Matterhorn: A Spectacular Race Across Two Countries

The men’s ski world cup is setting up camp this week in Zermatt/Cervinia at the foot of the Matterhorn.

On Saturday and Sunday there is a departure on the program (in the LIVE ticker), which is partly in Switzerland and partly in Italy.

Although the race at the Gran Becca track is taking place for the first time, it already has an illustrious history. According to the ÖSV camp, the role of favorite is clearly assigned. “The Swiss have a home advantage,” said head coach Marko Pfeifer.

Looking forward to a new, “already strenuous” race

The key data of the speed opener promise, at least in theory, a true spectacle with magnificent images. A ski race across two countries, a new route designed by Olympic downhill champion Didier Défago – and all of this in the immediate vicinity of one of the most famous mountains in the world.

The finish is in Cervinia, Italy, at 2,865 meters above sea level, and the start is above Zermatt at 3,800 meters. This makes the race, in which the majority of the race is on glaciers, the highest in the Ski World Cup.
