Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell spoke regarding the results of the first training sessions in Bahrain. As a result of the second free practice session, Hamilton moved up to first place, and Russell became second.

Mercedes drivers finished second practice in Bahrain with a double, Verstappen sixth

“It was a crazy Friday,” said the seven-time F1 champion. – It was windy in the first training session. The condition of the track was very different from what it was during the tests, but overall everything was in order. We worked on C2 tires, so it was difficult to judge the balance of power.

The results of the second training session came as a shock to us. But we still have work to do. We lack pace over the long haul, but I’m much more pleased with the car. We need to work hard now because there are still areas that can be improved. It’s too early to talk regarding results. I think we, Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari and Aston Martin will be close, but if Max goes further away, it will be difficult to catch him.”

Russell added: “We’re not getting ahead of ourselves. The pace looked strong on one lap. After the tests we made some changes that we need to understand. In terms of race pace, we are very close to McLaren, Ferrari and Aston Martin, but still a little behind Red Bull. We need to sit down and figure out where this momentum comes from and whether we can maintain it.”
