Mercedes F1’s George Russell finished 12th in free practice on the first day of the 2023 F1 Round 11 British Grand Prix. Russell, along with his team-mate Lewis Hamilton, did not make the top ten timesheets on the first day. In it, Russell says he picked up on Mercedes F1’s tendencies in hot weather.
“Today was definitely not the best Friday,” commented George Russell. “In FP1 we had a decent pace on the medium tyres, and thought we might make a good step on the soft tyres. But in FP2 we struggled,” he said. We also made quite a few changes between sessions, which may not have fully compensated for the conditions.”It was certainly a difficult followingnoon, but tonight I will dig into the data with the team and see what happens tomorrow. “Despite all these difficulties, I can’t help but smile when I’m driving in front of the British fans. It gives me the energy to be strong once more tomorrow.”
