Meta Ray-ban Display Glasses: The Smart Glasses We’ve Been Waiting For?
For nearly a decade, the promise of truly functional smart glasses has remained largely unfulfilled. The question “can you even see anything in them?” was a constant refrain. Now, that’s changing. While numerous glasses with displays have emerged recently, the Meta ray-Ban Display glasses feel closest to delivering on the long-held vision of what smart glasses should be.
These aren’t the immersive augmented reality (AR) experiences offered by Meta’s Orion prototype – Meta itself categorizes “display AI glasses” as a distinct field. The Ray-Ban Display features a display on only the right lens, with a 20-degree field of view compared to Orion’s 70 degrees. Though, this isn’t necessarily a drawback.
The single-lens display proves surprisingly practical for everyday wear. It’s designed for quick glances when needed, rather than a constant overlay on your vision. This focused approach also allows for a sharper image, boasting 42 pixels per degree – a noticeable improvement, especially in outdoor settings.
