Dubai: The midfield terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport will reportedly open by the end of the year. Construction of the Midfield Terminal began in 2012.

It was initially scheduled for completion in 2017. However, the construction was delayed due to various reasons. In 2019, former CEO Brian Thompson announced that the project was 97% complete.

When completed, Midfield Terminal will have a capacity of 11,000 passengers per hour, equivalent to approximately 30 million passengers per year.

The construction is on an area of 7 lakh square meters with an investment of 1080 crore dirhams. Once the terminal becomes operational, most of the flights will be operated through this route. This will permanently close Terminals 1 and 2.

The move is to use the third terminal only during peak hours or be restricted to budget airlines. Passengers can reach various terminals via underground passage.
