Minecraft fans staged a flash mob against censorship in the game – the developers refused to change the system

Users Minecraft launched a flash mob to draw Microsoft’s attention to the problem of censorship in the game. Posts with the hashtag SaveMinecraft began to appear on social networks.

Fans of the game are unhappy with update 1.19.1 for Java Edition, with which automatic chat moderation appeared in the title. Previously, this was done by server owners, however, with the release of a patch in Minecraft, following sending a report, the system will independently determine inappropriate messages and behavior, as well as block violators.

Gamers called on Microsoft to remove automatic moderation. In their opinion, this turns into censorship, due to which players can get a permanent ban even when playing on their own servers. At the same time, some users agree that chat moderation should remain in multiplayer sessions in order to exclude spam and swearing. However, some players supported the innovation. They noted that Minecraft is a children’s game, which means that it should have automatic moderation of inappropriate behavior.

The authors of Minecraft noted in the comments on reddit that they see the dissatisfaction of the players and are ready for a constructive dialogue. However, the game’s community manager said that the team was not going to remove the innovation, and also reproached gamers for being overly aggressive messages towards the developers.
