Minister Jonatan Julien surprised many at a benefit evening this week by performing the song Copilot by FouKi and Jay Scott, a performance that has since been posted on social media.
Wearing a backwards cap and sporting Nike basketball shoes – very popular among young people – the MP for Charlesbourg thought he was a rapper for the duration of a song.
“It was a great experience,” he says. It’s a song that’s not easy to sing though, it took me a lot of practice. My family is so tired of hearing it, I no longer have the right to sing it or play it for a long time!”
Mr. Julien lent himself to the game during a charity evening for the Le Petit Blanchon Foundation, which helps children living in critical situations.
“I took my courage in both hands and I don’t regret it at all. It is important for me not to be afraid of ridicule, especially when it is for a good cause, ”argues the Minister of Infrastructure.
The daring performance of the Minister of the Capitale-Nationale in the company of six young singers was published and praised on the Facebook page of the Petits Chanteurs de Charlesbourg.
Not the first to launch
This performance is reminiscent of some elected officials who have already made headlines for public performances.
This is the case of the former Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper who, in 2014, accompanying himself on the piano, sang Hey Jude Beatles in front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
