Ministry of Finance Reduces Minimum Price for Ethyl Alcohol, Benefits Vodka Production and Large Manufacturers

The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation is going to reduce the minimum price for ethyl alcohol from food raw materials from 68 to 55 rubles per liter. According to sources familiar with the alcohol market, this will lead to a reduction in the cost of vodka production.

“Reducing the minimum price for ethyl alcohol will lead to a reduction in the cost of vodka production. In particular, <…> such a measure will help support large manufacturers,” the sources explained, Vedomosti reports.

Savings from the reduction in the price of alcohol purchases will compensate for the increase in the cost of components that depend on the exchange rate (paper, closures, etc.). It will also partially cover the costs of manufacturers following the excise increase, which is scheduled for early next year. At the same time, the level of retail prices will not change significantly, the interlocutors of the publication believe.

Earlier, the State Duma approved the indexation of excise rates on strong alcohol. In 2024, the increase will be 5%, in 2025 and 2026 – 4%.
