The emergency that occurred with some sick children in the Jaidukama indigenous reservation, in the San Matías de Ituango area, began to be addressed according to the protocols activated by the Government of Antioquia. A helicopter helped in the evacuation of two of the children with their families.

These minors suffer from severe malnutrition and leishmaniasis, conditions that require immediate medical attention.

Among those evacuated is a child of just 19 months, whose condition is particularly critical due to malnutrition and associated medical complications. The transfer was made possible thanks to the joint efforts of the Governorate of Antioquia and the Mayor’s Office of Ituango, who have worked to ensure the evacuation and medical treatment of the minors.

The two children, along with their parents, are already at the General Hospital of Medellín, where they will receive the specialized care they so desperately need.

Tomorrow, the helicopter is expected to return to the reservation to evacuate the remaining children, who also require urgent medical attention. Authorities continue to coordinate with the indigenous community to ensure that the entire process is carried out as quickly and safely as possible. The Secretary of Health of Antioquia pointed out that “we are all working together to rescue our children from any corner of Antioquia.”
