Breaking News: Minturno Mayor Implements Forest Fire Prevention Measures Until October 15th
In an urgent move to mitigate the risk of forest fires, the mayor of Minturno, Gerardo Stefanelli, has signed Ordinance n. 89. This ordinance outlines comprehensive prevention measures that will be in effect from June 15th to October 15th. The aim is to safeguard the municipality and its surrounding areas from potential fire hazards.
Key Prohibitions and Safety Measures
To ensure the safety of all residents and visitors, the ordinance imposes strict prohibitions across all areas of the municipality at risk of forest fires:
- Lighting any fires, including those for mining activities or using explosives.
- Utilizing flame or electric devices to cut metals.
- Operating engines, stoves, or incinerators that produce sparks or embers, except for authorized forestry works.
- Cleaning paths with fire.
- Smoking or discarding matches, cigars, or lit cigarettes in areas prone to fires.
- Engaging in pyrotechnic activities, including fireworks and flying lanterns, without proper licensing.
- Stopping or parking hot vehicles on dry vegetation.
- Transiting with motor vehicles on non-paved roads within bushy areas, except for authorized services.
- Leaving infesting vegetation and flammable waste near homes and buildings.
Protective Measures for Landowners and Entities
Owners and managers of lands are required to create protective bands around the perimeter, free of dry material, with a minimum width of 5 meters. Entities are tasked with maintaining clear areas along infrastructure axes, particularly in wooded and bushy zones. Additionally, bodies responsible for protected areas must carry out periodic maintenance on arboreal vegetation to ensure safe passage for firefighting vehicles.
Farmers and landowners must clear a protective band of at least 10 meters around their fields, free from vegetation residue, by June 15th. Burning stubble and agricultural waste is strictly prohibited throughout the period.
Additional Precautions for High-Risk Activities
Activities with high explosive risks and owners of campsites, tourist villages, and residential centers must maintain efficient protective bands and evacuation plans. These measures ensure quick and safe responses in case of emergencies.
Penalties for Non-Compliance
Violations of the ordinance’s provisions will result in penalties, including criminal charges as per state regulations. Administrative sanctions ranging from 25 to 500 euros may also be imposed for non-compliance with preventive interventions.
This ordinance underscores the commitment of the Minturno administration to public safety and the preservation of natural environments. Stay informed and follow these guidelines to contribute to a safer community.
