Many adults and children find it difficult to master the principles of the art of drawing, and they do not know the simple methods and lines that may help them proceed in drawing smoothly, especially when trying to draw personal portraits. This is what I presented to the children as an artistic workshop within the workshops organized by the Children’s Book Drawings Exhibition at the Sharjah Reading Festival 2023, where the children were introduced to the portrait drawing technique, which was famous for the Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani.
Drawing instructors relied on teaching this artist’s method in achieving personal portraiture due to its simplicity and combination of the influences of several artistic trends such as Cubism and Impressionist art, where the artist Modigliani used to paint faces with simple lines, bright colors, and expressions that tended to elongate the features of the face and neck to highlight the personality of the photographer and his way of drawing. In addition to using elements such as collar, shawl, and flowers to give a touch of elegance to the characters he drew.
The children, with the instructions of the trainer, learned how to use chalk on black paper to draw the features of a personal portrait and put touches of color to give life to their drawings. After the children finished drawing the basic lines of the portraits, the trainer distributed colors to them so that they might color the faces they had drawn. wooden, and the children took a group photo at the end of the workshop.
