More than 2,000 passengers and 1,000 crew members of a cruise ship, the “Norwegian Dawn”, are stranded on board the ship, off the coast of Mauritius, the American shipping company Norwegian Cruise Line announced on Sunday.

The Mauritian authorities are refusing the cruise ship access to Port Louis because some passengers who reported stomach aches on board are suspected of suffering from a contagious disease such as cholera or gastroenteritis.

The health authorities took samples, the results of which are not yet known. In the meantime, the Mauritian authorities have postponed the disembarkation of current passengers and the boarding of new passengers by two days.

The boat began its cruise on February 13.
