more than 50% of fruits and vegetables contain pesticides according to UFC-Que Choisir

Eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day, says the slogan. Yes, but according to a latest study, more than 50% of fruits and vegetables contain pesticides…

Pointed out to trigger the onset of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney failure and chronic lung diseases such as asthma, pesticides were found in fruits and vegetables in 50% of casesreveals an analysis of UFC-Que Choisir.

Diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney failure…

For its study, UFC-Que Choisir analyzed 14,000 foodstuffs and the results are edifying, as France 3 journalist Margaux Subra-Gomez points out on the 12/1 p.m. set: “The observation is than pesticides (in theagriculture intensive), are extremely widespread in our food. (…) 51% of fruits and vegetables analyzed by UFC are contaminated by at least one molecule. This is especially true for products from conventional agriculture, but organic is not spared”, worries the journalist.

Organic is not spared

No less than 150 dangerous substances were identified in the samples tested… Although organic products are not spared by pesticides, they are contaminated in fairly low proportions. The “fruits at risk” are cherries, with nearly 92% of the samples analyzed containing pesticides, celery and grapefruit, but also apples (80% of them contaminated), grapes (77%), strawberries (76%), green beans (74%), aubergines (63%), salads (58%), peppers (58%), melon (57%) and tomatoes (57%).

Apples, grapes, strawberries: bad students

Among the ‘good students’ were cassava, kiwis and asparagus: “Health authorities now classify many molecules found as endocrine disruptors. They can promote the appearance of cancers, infertility, cause developmental problems”, continues Margaux Subra-Gomez.
