more than 86 thousand beneficiaries since January 2023 2024-04-21 03:23:34

Authorities from the Customs and Protection Office (CBP) reported that more than 86,000 Cubans have benefited from humanitarian parole to the United States since January 2023, when this program by President Joe Biden was launched.

According to this information, until March of this year more than 86 thousand Antilleans were approved by this program and already 84 thousand of them are residing legally in the United States with all the advantages of parole.

The highest approved so far have been the Haitians, with 168 thousand, then the Venezuelans, with 102 thousand, and finally the Nicaraguans, with 77 thousand, until this date in March.

After eliminating Title 42, a Donald Trump-era measure that restricted the entry of migrants, the United States opened a humanitarian parole program in January 2023 for citizens of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

This initiative, which had already been implemented for Ukraine and Venezuela, allows legal entry into the United States for urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit. Since its expansion, more than 404,000 migrants from these four countries have entered the United States legally through the parole program.

Parole for Cubans: more than 86 thousand beneficiaries

This figure of more than 86 thousand Cubans benefited from parole to the United States since January 2023, occurs shortly following a controversy over a wave of denials.

Recently, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a statement to clarify the recent wave of erroneous non-confirmation notices sent to applicants for the humanitarian parole program for Cubans, Venezuelans, Nicaraguans and Haitians. The controversy arose earlier this month, when several applicants reported receiving rejection notices.

This entity clarified that the avalanche of notifications of denial of humanitarian parole received by thousands of Cubans, Venezuelans, Nicaraguans and Haitians in early April was due to a technical change in its system. The solution is to reapply.
