Residents of the Morelos Delegation are set to benefit from a comprehensive public health fair on January 30th, offering a range of free and low-cost services. The event, announced by general Health Coordinator María Teresa Rendón Esquivel, aims to promote preventative care for both people and thier pets.
Comprehensive Health Services Available
The fair, scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Avenida Siglo XXI #704 in the Morelos I subdivision, will feature several key components. These include educational courses on maintaining good hygiene practices and a mobile veterinary operating room.
Hygiene courses will address critical areas such as food handling, and sanitation procedures for businesses like parking lots, restrooms, barbershops, beauty salons, and gyms. Registration for the courses will begin 30 minutes prior to each session; a fee will be required for certificate issuance.
Pet Care Focus: Vaccinations and Sterilizations
Pet owners will have access to vital veterinary services. Rabies vaccinations will be provided on demand, and 30 free sterilization appointments are available, requiring prior booking by calling 449 977 27 79. To qualify for free sterilization, pets must be over five months old, not pregnant or nursing, and not a brachycephalic breed. Registration on the municipal pet registry is also mandatory; details can be found at www.ags.gob.mx/padronmascotas.
Additional Services Through PROESPA
The State Environmental Protection Agency (PROESPA) will contribute with a full suite of services, including veterinary medical examinations, deworming, vaccinations for dogs and cats, ultrasound services, and canine grooming. Educational talks on responsible pet ownership and pet adoption will also be presented. A traveling verification module will be on-site to address environmental concerns.
Pet owners are reminded to keep their animals leashed or contained, and those seeking sterilization services should withhold food for 12 hours and bring a blanket for their pet’s comfort.
Adoption Fair to Connect Pets With Loving Homes
an adoption fair will be held concurrently, featuring participation from GAIA Club Pro Animal, fortaleza Animal AC, Fundación Ángeles de Mascotas, and Loyalty Animal and Compromiso AC. These organizations provide follow-up care to ensure successful pet placements.
A Regular Initiative for Public Wellbeing
According to Teresa Rendon, these health fairs are planned as recurring events throughout the municipality, demonstrating a commitment to preventative health measures and community wellness. Similar initiatives have shown success in reducing the incidence of preventable diseases in other regions. Such as,a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention highlights the growing importance of One health initiatives – collaborative, multisectoral, and trans-disciplinary approaches to achieve optimal health outcomes for people, animals, and the surroundings.
