[월간수소경제 이종수 기자] Morocco is expected to supply more than 5% of Europe’s green hydrogen demand by 2050.

According to the ‘Global Energy Weekly Briefing (1st week of September 2023)’ published by the Global Energy Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as a result of a recent research conducted by the European Commission through Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute, Morocco’s green hydrogen production by 2050 will exceed that of Spain. With a level of more than 30% of production, Morocco is expected to become a major supplier, supplying more than 5% of the entire European demand.

Deloitte revealed in data that Morocco’s green hydrogen export capacity has the potential to offset Morocco’s current trade balance deficit.

Meanwhile, in May, French energy company TotalEnergies invested 9.4 billion euros for hydrogen and ammonia business in Morocco, and in June, Moroccan state-owned phosphate company OCP also invested 7 billion euros to build an ammonia plant using green hydrogen in southern Morocco. Announced large-scale investment plan.
