Morocco Newspaper | The French city of Amiens wants to borrow a Madonna painting

The French city of Amiens is competing for the title of “European Capital of Culture” for the year 2028.

The mayor of the city of Amiens, in northern France, requested the American singer “Madonna” to lend the city the painting “Diana and Endymion” by the painter Jerome Martin Langlois.

The painting dates back to the nineteenth century and was lost during World War I. It depicts the Roman goddess Diana looking eagerly at the young Endymion. The painting was among the exhibits of the Amiens Museum, but it was lost following Germany bombed the city in 1918.

According to the French newspaper Le Figaro, the painting of the artist, “Madonna”, was previously offered for sale at an auction in New York in 1989, and the artist bought it for $1.3 million.
