Mortal Kombat 1 is right around the corner, and at Gamescom we got to sit down with the one and only Ed Boon to talk gameplay, story, and more. In an interview with the series co-creators, we also asked what the decision-making process was for bringing back old characters. We’ve seen the return of many old-school faces so far, but fans are always eager for their favorites to return. “It’s kind of intuitive for us,” Boon said. “We really felt that, once more, with Mortal Kombat 1, we wanted to have as many new things as possible. Some of these characters hadn’t been in a Mortal Kombat game in 17 years. So it felt like it was time to refresh them and put them in This combat mechanic, the cameos also let us bring back characters like Gentaro, these crazy big characters that don’t work well in normal fighting games, but players miss the characters so when they see them coming back, see them The modernizations are fun. Also, it looks like those modernizations are going to be more powerful. When asked how to balance a game with gods fighting, Boon said: “If I were to describe the difference between Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat 1 , I think we just loosened things up. We’re making players a little bit more crazy in their ideas, it’s more of a Wild West type of melee, and it really makes players come up with the craziest combos that we didn’t know they were going to come up with.
