Much cheaper diesel and petrol from this Thursday in France: Belgian petrol pump owners worried

Diesel and petrol will be much cheaper tomorrow/Thursday in France. The French government is temporarily increasing the excise duty rebate to 30 euro cents per liter and the supplier Total Energies is granting another rebate of 20 euro cents. Belgian petrol pump owners fear this competition.

“The price difference with Belgium is becoming so significant that we fear for the competitive position of our service stations in the border region”, said Wednesday Johan Mattart, of the Belgian federation of fuel and fuel traders Brafco. It invites the Belgian government to further reduce excise duties.

The federal government already applies a reduction of 17.5 euro cents on petrol and diesel at the pump. According to Mr. Mattart, the European regulations allow a further reduction, so that the difference with France, but also Germany, would be reduced.
