The Salzburg delegation, the second largest in Austria behind Tyrol, grew shortly before the start of the major event for future hopes between the ages of 15 and 18. There was a personnel change in the alpine squad, which will be in action for the first time on Sunday: Leon Hafner (SSKwerfen) replaces Stephan Koch from Lower Austria, who was injured in training. The young skiers traveled to Gangwon via Munich on Monday. The ski talents are supported on site by, among others, three-time Olympic champion Matthias Mayer.

Hafner is the ninth athlete from Salzburg to take part in the Winter Games, which run until February 1st. The ice hockey players who are currently being trained at the Red Bull Academy are also half Salzburgers. Shortly before departure to South Korea, a sixth young bull, Benedikt Hengelmüller from Lower Austria, was nominated. He found out regarding this opportunity during a game, immediately packed his things and took the plane ride with the team a short time later. “It was a crazy day, I still have to process it mentally,” says Hengelmüller, whose team plays their opening game once morest Great Britain on Saturday. “The anticipation mightn’t be greater. It’s a huge honor to represent Austria.”
