Nathan Eovaldi leads Texas Rangers to victory over Tampa Bay Rays in clash of best records

ST. PETERSBURG — Nathan Eovaldi became the second pitcher with nine wins this major league season, Corey Seager had five hits and four RBIs, and the Texas Rangers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-4 Saturday.

In a matchup between the teams with the best records this season, Eovaldi (9-2) allowed four runs and seven hits over 6 1/3 innings. He improved to 8-0 in his last 10 starts.

Texas (41-22) snapped a seven-game winning streak by the Rays (47-20).

Seager hit a two-run double during a three-run burst in the third off rookie Taj Bradley (4-3). He hit a two-run homer off Jalen Beeks in a three-run fourth inning.

He has 29 RBIs since May 17, when he returned following recovering from a strained left thigh.

Francisco Mejia homered for Tampa Bay, which fell to 30-7 at home.
