Among the top 10 universities in the world, the United Kingdom and the United States account for 3 and 7 respectively. In Asia, the three highest-ranked universities in the world are Tsinghua University (12th) and Peking University (14th) in China, as well as the National University of Singapore (19th).
This is the 20th time THE World University Rankings have been released, and it is also the largest one, with a total of 1,904 universities and colleges from 108 countries and regions participating in the rankings.
The 2024 World University Rankings use 18 performance indicators, more than in previous years. These 18 indicators cover five major areas: teaching, research quality, research environment, international outlook, and industry. THE reminds that this change in the ranking method may affect the scores of some universities; this factor should be taken into consideration when analyzing and comparing the rankings of various universities over the years.
According to information provided by THE, compared with universities and colleges in other countries and regions participating in the evaluation, Taiwan’s performance is higher than the world average in the two fields of “industry” and “research environment”, but in “teaching” and “research environment”, Taiwan’s performance is higher than the world average. The three areas of “International Outlook” and “Research Quality” are lower than the world average, especially “Research Quality”.
However, due to the changes in the evaluation method of the major indicator “research quality” in this ranking, Taiwan’s universities and colleges have improved their performance in the “research quality” ranking this time than before.
Batty pointed out that Taiwan’s universities and colleges perform outstandingly in industry-related indicators, and the best witnesses are the successful international companies from Taiwan. (Editor: Chen Huiping) 1120927
