National Vaccination Campaign Launched in Guinea-Bissau to Combat Meningitis A and COVID-19

BISSAU, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) — A national vaccination campaign once morest meningitis A for children aged one to 7 years and once morest COVID-19 for people aged over 18 was launched on Friday in Bissau , under the aegis of the Guinea-Bissau Ministry of Public Health.

This vaccination campaign ”will help protect the population in general and children under 7 years of age in particular so that they can grow up in good health,” declared the Minister of Public Health, Domingos Malu, who chaired the launching ceremony.

“Bacterial meningitis remains a global challenge for children’s health with more than 1.2 million cases recorded each year,” underlined the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Guinea-Bissau, Chantal Kambire.

Welcoming the health policy of the Guinea-Bissau government, she indicated that the latter “had spared no effort to find ways to protect its population once morest the COVID-19 pandemic and other pathologies, through various programs and campaigns vaccination”.

The national vaccination campaign, financed by various partners, will last one week. END
