Nawaz Sharif was also acquitted in the Al-Azizia reference, declaring the punishment of the accountability court null and void

Islamabad High Court acquitted PML-N leader Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference. A hearing on Nawaz Sharif’s appeal against the sentence in the Al-Azizia reference was held in the Islamabad High Court today. The Islamabad High Court rejected the plea to send the Al-Azizia reference back to the accountability court.

A two-member bench consisting of Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb held the hearing and reserved the decision.

However, later, the Islamabad High Court gave a short verdict and accepted the appeal against Nawaz Sharif’s sentence in the Al-Azizia reference and acquitted him in the case.

It should be remembered that on July 6, 2018, the accountability court of Islamabad sentenced Nawaz Sharif to 11 years in prison in the Avenfield reference.

Also, on December 24, 2018, the Accountability Court of Islamabad sentenced former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to 7 years in prison and a fine in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference.

On October 26 this year, the Islamabad High Court had reinstated the appeals against the sentence in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references on the request of (N) League leader Nawaz Sharif.

In recent days, the Islamabad High Court has acquitted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield reference by declaring his sentence of 11 years in prison null and void.
