NBA Draft: First Pick Edwards to Minnesota, Hayes to seven picks

On Wednesday evening (local time), the biggest name did not prevail in this year’s NBA draft. Before LaMelo Ball and James Wiseman, the Minnesota Timberwolves chose Anthony Edwards. A former BBL player was picked in 7th place.

The top three appeared to be set in stone, what wasn’t clear was the order. In the 2020 draft, it was not LaMelo Ball, but Anthony Edwards (19) who was drawn in first place. The Guard, who is considered an incredible scorer, will go on a basket hunt for the Minnesota Timberwolves with D’Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns.

The ball of the same age, which has seen a lot more of the basketball world and is already considered a star, landed third at the Charlotte Hornets. Big Man James Wiseman, who was also traded as a possible number 1 pick, was selected after Edwards and before Ball by the Golden State Warriors, who want to attack again at the top after various setbacks in the last two years.

With the 19-year-old Frenchman Killian Hayes, who played for ratiopharm Ulm in 2019/20, the Detroit Pistons also picked a former BBL player prominently in 7th place and thus a Frenchman before him earlier than ever. German players were not registered for the draft this year.

Numerous deals were made

Numerous teams used their access rights in exchange for other basketball players to do business with their league competitors as usual. According to the US media, these deals cannot be made official until the transfer window opens on Sunday.

The season in the NBA has been shortened to 72 main round games per team due to the corona pandemic and is scheduled to start on December 22nd. The training camps start in early December.
