NBNI 2025: Sheppard, Harris & Top HS Track Stars Compete

The New Balance Nationals Indoor (NBNI) is set to return to The TRACK at New Balance in Boston this weekend, from Thursday through Sunday, promising an exciting showcase of high school talent in track and field. The event will be streamed live on the New Balance YouTube channel and RunnerSpace, with on-demand videos available for RunnerSpace+ subscribers. DyeStat will provide comprehensive coverage, including interviews and photos.

This year’s competition features a range of athletes vying for top honors across various events. One of the standout competitors is Union Catholic’s Paige Sheppard, a junior who has already made waves in track and field with her remarkable performances in both the 800 meters and the mile. Sheppard, who holds the national best in the 800 meters with a time of 2:02.81, is also the top entry in the mile with a personal record of 4:35.71.

Key Competitors in Sprints and Hurdles

Among the sprinters, Sianni Wynn of Pennsauken, NJ, is a name to watch. Last June, she clinched the New Balance Nationals Outdoor title in the 100 meters and finished as the runner-up in the 200 meters. Currently, she is positioned as the US#4 in both the 60 meters (7.30) and the 200 meters (23.19). Wynn is expected to face tough competition from Ja’Naiya Brown of The House Running Club and Dasia Reed from Montverde Academy in the 200 meters.

In the 400 meters, Olivia Harris from Buford, GA, is leading the pack with a nation-best time of 52.16, which places her fourth on the all-time list. This event will also feature competitors like Sophia Rambo from Virginia and Maddison Brister-Wesley from Georgia, who have both recorded impressive times this season.

Distance Events Highlight Sheppard’s Talents

Paige Sheppard’s prowess in distance events sets her apart. After a strong showing at the USATF Indoor Championships, she returns to NBNI with aspirations of not just personal victory but also contributing significantly to her team’s relay efforts. Last year, she finished eighth in the 800 meters, and this time she aims to improve her standing against formidable opponents like Jane Hickey from New York, who is currently ranked US#4 in the 800 meters.

In addition to her individual events, Sheppard is poised to anchor the distance medley relay for Union Catholic, which holds the US#1 time this season. The team’s goal is to break the all-time record currently held at 11:17.50.

Throws and Jumps: A Competitive Field

The weight throw is anticipated to be one of the most competitive events, featuring nine of the top 10 throwers in the country, including national leader Ainsley Cuthbertson from Lexington, MA. Cuthbertson has achieved a personal best of 57-11 this winter and may push for a 60-foot throw if conditions allow.

The jumps also promise excitement with several athletes exceeding 42 feet in the triple jump. Michailyn Rose from Virginia stands out with a mark of 42-8.25, even as Alexis Brown from Bullis is a contender in both the long and triple jump events.

Relay Races: Potential for Record-Breaking Performances

The relays are set to be a highlight, especially with Union Catholic and Bullis expected to battle for supremacy. Union Catholic has already set the high school record in the 4×800 relay this season and is now focused on the distance medley relay, which they lead with a time of 11:18.75. Meanwhile, Bullis is the top entry in the 4×200 and 4×400 relays, promising thrilling matchups against teams like Montverde Academy.

As the weekend unfolds, all eyes will be on these athletes as they look to achieve personal bests and possibly break national records. The New Balance Nationals Indoor is not just a competition; it’s a display of the dedication and talent of high school athletes across the nation.

For fans eager to follow the action, the event will be streamed live, and highlights will be available through various platforms. This weekend’s performances could set the stage for future stars in the world of track and field.
