A large study published in the Lancet on Friday revealed alarming figures on global cancers and the risk factors to consider.

The ravages ofalcohol a you tobacco are confirmed. A vast study published in the Lancet this Friday and relayed by Le Figaro revealed that they are mostly responsible for the cancers in the world. Scientists have indeed concluded that tobacco is by far the leading cause of cancer (33.9%), followed by alcohol (7.4%). “According to our analysis, 44.4% of cancer deaths worldwide (…) are attributable to a risk factor that has been measured”underlines this study carried out within the framework of the Global Burden of Disease.
Prevent, diagnose and treat
Several thousand researchers in most countries of the world took part in this extensive study funded by the Bill Gates Foundation. This work has above all made it possible to highlight the importance of prevention in terms of public health, given that the majority of these risk factors are linked to behaviors that can be changed or avoided. However, the researchers pointed out that a large half of the cancers are not attributed to a given risk factor. It is therefore important to carry out a sufficiently early diagnosis and to use effective treatments.
