Nehammer wants to increase defense spending to 1 percent of GDP – domestic

Vienna – In view of the Ukraine crisis, Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) is now responding to the long-standing demand of many experts to increase Austria’s defense spending to one percent of gross domestic product (GDP). “What we currently have to achieve is at least one percent of GDP,” he told the Süddeutsche Zeitung, which appears on Saturday with a new Austria page. The SPÖ had previously requested this.
