Neil Druckmann says he’s increasingly intrigued by the storytelling style of Elden Ring and INSIDE

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

Lately I’ve been intrigued by games like Elden Ring and INSIDE that rely less on traditional storytelling methods.

The best story moments in The Last of Us are delivered through the cinematics, but they are also present in the gameplay when you just explore the location and try to understand its history. These days, the kind of games I enjoy the most are those that trust the players to figure things out on their own and don’t hold their hands.

This does not mean that we will refuse dialogues or cutscenes. I think this is still one of the most important elements that can still be improved. At least in the games that Naughty Dog makes. However, I am interested in trying something new and different. Not everyone will like it, but that’s okay.
