Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he has informed the United States that he opposes the creation of a Palestinian state in any post-war scenario.
The Jan. 18 announcement exposes deep divisions between the allies, who have remained at odds during Israel’s three-month war once morest Hamas militants in Gaza.
The US called on Israel to scale back its offensive and said the creation of a Palestinian state must be part of “the day following tomorrow”.
In a news conference broadcast nationwide, Netanyahu vowed to continue the offensive until Israel achieves a “decisive victory over Hamas.” He also rejected the idea of Palestinian statehood and said he had made his case to the Americans.
