Lauterbach (PM). How much cell phone time is too much? What happens on Tikkok, Snapchat and in WhatsApp groups? And how can parents accompany their children in digital space without overwhelming or controlling them? Questions like these are moving more and more families – and they are the focus of a special day of action that the Mobile family association on Saturday, 20.

September, organized in Lauterbach.

The media competence campaign day should strengthen parents and children alike. Because today digital media is a matter of course for children and adolescents-the first own smartphone, YouTube videos, group chats or online games are often an issue in primary school. Many parents feel insecure, because there are often well -founded information about the media habits of their children – and the associated opportunities and risks.

“Bans often bring little,” says Mobile’s team, “but with the right attitude, open exchange and knowledge about the digital living environment of children, media education can succeed.” Together with the media education -experienced team of the nationwide, the club’s gaze change has therefore developed two coordinated formats that can be visited independently of one another.

In the morning of the campaign day, a five-hour intensive workshop for children between the ages of ten and 13 starts. In age -appropriate language and with a lot of space to participate, the participants should learn how to move safely online, which risks reserve social media and how to deal critically with content, screen times and group compulsion. Current platforms and topics such as fake profiles, chain letters, challenges and data protection should also be discussed. The workshop takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the school on the washing earth. Drinks and lunch are provided.

Afterwards from 5 p.m. – the information evening for parents, legal guardians and pedagogical specialists begins. In a compact lecture followed by a question and answer session, the media educators want to do a well -founded overview of the current media use of children and adolescents.

What is the content of young people? Which risks such as cyberbullying, sexting or excessive consumption are associated with this? And above all: How can adults support children to deal with the media confidently and reflected, without forbidding them? A report in our newspaper on June 20 of this year also shows that such events are urgently needed. Under the title “It shocked when everyone reports”, the journalist and social media trainer Maja Sommer reported her experiences in schools. She impressively described how many children had already been confronted with brutal content or sexualized images on the net – often without preparation and often without the knowledge of the parents. The call for clear orientation and child -friendly education will be louder – and this is exactly where Mobile’s action day comes in.

Registration now possible

Participation in both events is deliberately kept low -threshold. For the children’s workshop, there are 20 euros per child including lunch and drinks, members of the association pay only ten euros. The information evening for parents is free of charge. If you want to use the reduced tariff, you can become a family member at Mobile for only 18 euros annual fee.

Registration takes place online and is now possible. The places are limited – so it is worth being quick. Interested parties can find more information and links to the website of the association or at www.mobile-lauterbach.de/Medienkompetence
