Neufchâteau Criminal Court Sentences Arnaud Gouverneur and Amélie Lambert to Two Years in Prison – Latest News and Updates

This Tuesday, the Neufchâteau Criminal Court sentenced Arnaud Gouverneur, 35, from Anloy (Libin), and his partner Amélie Lambert, 32, to two years in prison each.

The court took into account the state of recidivism of Mr. Gouverneur, sentenced to one year in prison by the police court of Neufchâteau last January and another sentence of one year in prison suspended on probation for five years, this last sentence pronounced by the correctional court of Neufchâteau also in January.

The defendant is also in a state of recidivism, she who was sentenced by the Liège Court of Appeal in June 2022 to a sentence of 36 months in prison with probationary suspension of five years for what exceeds the preventive detention suffered.

A trap

The couple was found guilty of beatings and arbitrary detention on May 21 once morest a friend of the lady, who owed her €4,000.

The victim, coming from Brussels, told the police that he came without fear to Libramont by train, then was taken by car to Anloy by the lady who was an old friend.

He was thinking of smoking a joint with her, without his laundry room, when to his great surprise he saw the lady’s companion appear and immediately beat him up, in the presence of the woman.

The victim further told the police: “Around 5 a.m., they made me scrape the ice from the freezer and forced me to stand in it following giving me blankets. They then placed a skateboard on the edge of the freezer so I had space to breathe and closed and strapped the freezer so I mightn’t run away.”

The victim thus remained in a very uncomfortable position, legs bent and feet glued to his buttocks until the morning.

The couple then had to go outside and first placed tape over the victim’s mouth, around his wrists, knees and feet. But the victim later managed to get out of the house and contact the emergency services via a neighbor.

In its judgment on Tuesday, the Neufchateau court considers that the acts of beatings and kidnapping were carried out with premeditation – which the defendant disputed -.

The court cannot grant a reprieve and a work sentence to the two defendants who have already benefited from several perches stretched by Justice.
