RENO, Nev. — The Nevada Wolf Pack baseball team (0-3) begins its 2026 home season this weekend with a three-game series against the Utah Valley Wolverines (2-2) at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park. The series, originally scheduled for four games, has been adjusted due to inclement weather, now featuring a doubleheader on Saturday, February 21st, beginning at 11 a.m. PST, followed by a single game on Sunday, February 22nd, also at 11 a.m. PST.
Fans can follow all the action via live stream on the Mountain West Network and the MW App. The games will also be broadcast on The Varsity Network app, with play-by-play commentary provided by Wolf Pack Baseball alumnus Zak Basch. This marks the first home games for Nevada after starting the season on the road.
The Wolf Pack is looking to secure its first win of the season after a challenging start. Utah Valley presents a tough early-season test, having narrowly missed a series win at Pacific last weekend. The Wolverines dropped the final game of that series 3-2 in 10 innings.
Saturday’s doubleheader will see left-handed pitcher Alessandro Castro (0-1) accept the mound for Nevada in the first game, facing off against Utah Valley’s right-hander Colton Kennedy (1-0). The second game’s starting pitchers are yet to be announced for Nevada, while the Wolverines are slated to start left-handed pitcher Jacob Heppner (0-0). Sunday’s finale will feature Nevada’s right-handed pitcher Jayce Dobie (0-0) against Utah Valley’s right-handed pitcher Landon Zomborowski (0-0).
Utah Valley’s Strong Start
Utah Valley enters the series with a 2-2 record, demonstrating offensive firepower. Hunter Katschke has been a key contributor for the Wolverines, hitting two home runs and driving in three runs. Mason Hamlin leads the team with five hits, while Brody Block has driven in a team-high five runs, according to team reports. On the pitching side, reliever Carter Seely has secured a win in his two appearances, and Landon Zomborowski delivered a standout performance, allowing just two hits and striking out eight batters over six scoreless innings in his most recent outing. Colton Kennedy also impressed in his opening day start, allowing only one run on two hits with seven strikeouts in five innings.
A History Between the Programs
This weekend’s series renews a rivalry that hasn’t seen action in over a decade. The last time Nevada and Utah Valley met was in 2014, with the Wolf Pack securing a 4-2 victory on May 13th of that year. Historically, Nevada holds a significant advantage in the series, boasting an 18-6 record over Utah Valley in 24 total games played. University of Nevada Athletics
The series provides an opportunity for Nevada to establish a strong foundation at home and build momentum as the 2026 season progresses. The coaching staff will be looking for consistent offensive production and solid pitching performances to overcome their early-season struggles.
