New Airline Regulations: Traveling with Smart Bags – What You Need to Know

2023-08-23 15:13:00

The airlines British Airways, Easyjet and above all Ryanair have decided to ban smart bags. These are smart bags that have an integrated electronic system that allows you to charge a phone or connect via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

To prevent these batteries from overheating, these three companies therefore decided that it was forbidden to use this technology on the plane.

You can travel with a smart bag, but…

If these three companies no longer let their passengers use their smart bag, it does not mean that it is forbidden to take it with you when boarding the plane.

With British Airways, these smart bags must end up in the hold or in the cabin if the power source can be easily removed and placed in a bag.

For its part, Ryanair asks passengers to keep the battery of the smart bag outside of it.

Finally, at EasyJet, you must also be able to remove the battery, but it is possible to take it on board, in the hold or in the cabin. Thus, if the smart suitcase must be transported in the hold, it must be without the battery, which must be transported in the cabin. And if you want to carry said baggage in the cabin, its battery must be disconnected.

Several low-cost airlines have just taken a new measure concerning certain hand luggage. An important rule to know, because it might risk pinning you down.
